Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper and or lower eyelids. It is performed for functional reasons, cosmetic reasons, or a combination of both. Excess eyelid tissue can cause a tired appearance and, in some cases, interfere with vision. Before surgery, patients undergo a comprehensive eye and eyelid evaluation to assess skin laxity, muscle function, and eye health. This evaluation helps determine whether upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both are appropriate. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. Excess tissue is carefully removed or repositioned to restore a more youthful, alert appearance while maintaining natural eyelid function. Blepharoplasty can improve visual field obstruction, reduce eyelid heaviness, and create long-lasting aesthetic improvement with relatively short recovery time.
