Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper and or lower eyelids. It is performed to improve appearance, restore a more alert look, and in some cases improve vision obstructed by drooping eyelids. Before surgery, a detailed eye and eyelid evaluation is performed to assess skin laxity, muscle strength, and eye health. Visual field testing may be used when surgery is performed for functional reasons. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. Excess tissue is carefully removed or repositioned to maintain natural eyelid contours and function. Blepharoplasty offers long-lasting improvement in eyelid appearance and comfort, with relatively short recovery time compared to other facial surgeries.
