Glaucoma drainage implants are small medical devices used to reduce intraocular pressure in patients with moderate to advanced glaucoma. They are often recommended when traditional surgeries or medications do not provide adequate pressure control. Prior to surgery, detailed eye examinations and imaging are performed to assess eye anatomy and determine the optimal implant type and placement. The procedure is planned carefully to minimize risk and maximize pressure reduction. During surgery, the implant is placed inside the eye to redirect fluid to a reservoir where it can be absorbed by surrounding tissue.
