An impression or digital scan is then taken and sent to a dental lab, where the inlay or onlay is crafted from durable materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or gold. While the restoration is being made, a temporary filling may be placed. At a second visit, the custom inlay or onlay is carefully fitted, bonded to the tooth with strong dental cement, and adjusted to ensure a comfortable bite. Inlays and onlays offer several advantages over traditional fillings. Because they are custom-made, they provide a precise fit, excellent durability, and a strong seal that reduces the risk of future decay.
