LASEK is a form of laser vision correction that combines elements of both LASIK and PRK. It is designed for patients who may not qualify for LASIK due to corneal thickness or other anatomical considerations but still want laser-based vision correction. Before the procedure, patients undergo detailed eye testing to assess corneal shape, thickness, and visual needs. This evaluation allows the surgeon to determine if LASEK is appropriate and to tailor the treatment accordingly. During LASEK, the thin outer layer of the cornea is loosened and temporarily moved aside. The cornea is then reshaped with a laser, and the epithelial layer is repositioned. Healing occurs over several days as the surface layer regenerates. LASEK offers reliable vision correction with a safety profile well suited for select patients, though recovery time is typically longer than LASIK.
