Partial thickness corneal transplantation replaces only the diseased layers of the cornea while preserving healthy tissue. Techniques such as DALK, DSAEK, and DMEK are selected based on which corneal layers are affected. Before surgery, detailed imaging is performed to identify the depth and extent of corneal disease. This allows the surgeon to choose the most appropriate technique for optimal outcomes. These procedures are performed under anesthesia and involve replacing targeted corneal layers with donor tissue. Because less tissue is removed, partial thickness transplants often result in faster recovery and lower rejection risk compared to full-thickness transplants. Partial thickness corneal transplants offer excellent visual outcomes and are increasingly preferred when anatomically appropriate.
