PRK is a laser vision correction procedure used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, PRK does not involve creating a corneal flap, making it a suitable option for patients with thinner corneas or specific corneal conditions. Prior to treatment, a thorough eye exam is performed to evaluate corneal health, refractive error, and overall eye structure. Based on these findings, the surgeon determines whether PRK is the most appropriate option and designs a personalized treatment plan. During PRK, the outermost layer of the cornea is gently removed, and a laser is used to reshape the corneal surface. The corneal surface naturally regenerates over several days. While visual recovery is more gradual than LASIK, long-term visual outcomes are comparable. PRK is a well-established procedure with excellent safety and effectiveness, particularly for patients who may not be ideal candidates for LASIK.
