The ROPA method (Reception of Oocytes from the Partner) is an assisted reproduction treatment specifically designed for couples of women, allowing both partners to participate biologically in the creation of their child. In this approach, one partner provides the eggs, while the other partner carries and gives birth to the pregnancy, creating a shared experience of motherhood from conception through birth. The process begins with comprehensive fertility evaluations for both women. This includes analysis of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), antral follicle count, baseline hormonal testing, uterine evaluation, and genetic studies when indicated. Based on these results, the medical team determines which partner is best suited to provide the eggs and which partner will carry the pregnancy, considering factors such as ovarian reserve, age, and uterine health. Once roles are defined, a personalized treatment plan is developed. This plan takes into account age, expected egg yield and quality, uterine conditions, and the selection of an appropriate sperm donor. Donor selection may include consideration of physical characteristics and genetic compatibility, in line with the couple’s preferences and medical recommendations. Cycle preparation and synchronization are a critical part of the ROPA method. The partner providing the eggs undergoes ovarian stimulation to produce multiple follicles, while the partner who will carry the pregnancy prepares her endometrium using hormonal medication. Both processes are carefully coordinated so that embryo transfer occurs at the optimal time of uterine receptivity. Egg retrieval is performed after ovarian stimulation, and the eggs are fertilized with donor sperm using in vitro fertilization (IVF). Embryos are cultured in the laboratory, monitored closely, and selected with the support of artificial intelligence to identify those with the highest implantation potential. The best-quality embryo(s) are then transferred to the uterus of the partner who will carry the pregnancy. Embryo transfer is a simple outpatient procedure, often performed with both partners present to emphasize the shared nature of the process. After transfer, ongoing medical follow-up is provided throughout early pregnancy, and any remaining embryos may be cryopreserved for future use. In addition to its medical aspects, the ROPA method offers important emotional and legal advantages. It allows both women to have a biological role in building their family, fostering a unique emotional bond and shared experience of motherhood. Specialized legal counseling is typically provided to ensure proper documentation, establish legal parentage for both mothers, and support civil registration of the child in accordance with current local legislation.
